Cats Do Not Meu
At the tournament last week I learned the meaning of a word that I had thought I knew. Cats go MEW, MEOU, MEOW, MIAOW and MIAOU. They even MIAUL. I thought they went MEU as well, but I was wrong. That was crucial in one game where my play of MEUED was challenged off. All the other options can be treated as a verb, in fact MIAOUED is famous as a word which has 5 consecutive vowels. I have since discovered that MEU is another name for the BALDMONEY plant. Native to the grasslands of the U.K., baldmoney is an aromatic perennial. Its common name comes from the folklore of Scandinavia, where it is said to have been a tribute to the god, Baldr. 9 letter bingos are uncommon, but Alastair did play an impressive FOODERIES through OO against me, so anything is possible. Opportunities for extending BALD or MONEY already on the board are more likely but would still be nice.

Here are a few shorter words using the letters MEU
It has two other anagrams:
EMU An Australian bird
UME A fleshy yellow fruit
MEU makes 4 letter words with E, F, G, L, M, N, O, R, S & T:
EMEU An alternative spelling of EMU
FUME To give off smoke or vapour
GEUM A plant of the rose family
MULE A verb - something to do with making a coin
This word takes successive front hooks. It can be extended first with an E for EMULE and then with an A for AEMULE. Those are also verbs so AEMULING is a nice 8 letter bingo to play
MENU A list of dishes in a restaurant
NEUM (or NEUME) A series of notes sung to one syllable.
MEOU To make a sound like a cat
MOUE A disdainful or pouting look
MURE To wall up the doors RUME A watery discharge from the nose or eyes
MUSE, EMUS, MEUS and UMES are all OK
MUTE To deaden the sound
