Mauve Musings
Last week I got away with a dud 5 letter word against Jackie. Under our special rules at club she had 2 free challenges available so maybe she should have checked, but who would have thought MAUVY was not allowed?
There is a comparative word for all these colours:
RED ---- REDDY and REDDISH
ORANGE ---- ORANGY, ORANGEY and ORANGISH
YELLOW ---- YELLOWY and YELLOWISH
GREEN ---- GREENY and GREENISH
LIME ---- LIMEY (Possible just because it is a British sailor)
BLUE ---- BLUEY and BLUEISH
PURPLE ---- PURPLY and PURPLISH
PINK ---- PINKY and PINKISH
WHITE ---- WHITY, WHITEY and WHITISH
BROWN ---- BROWNY and BROWNISH
BLACK ---- BLACKISH (interesting that there is no blacky)
GREY ---- GREYISH
GRAY ---- GRAYISH
SILVER ---- SILVERY
BEIGE ---- BEIGY
I might easily have described a colour as MAUVY or MAUVISH? But neither of them are allowed
There are other colours that can't be compared. Certainly there is no scarlety, emeraldy or apricoty, but they would never have been part of my personal lexicon as mauvy or mauvish would have been
Would you have used either of those two, or is it just me?
Happy Scrabbling
Patrick
